What every one of these gets

Awards shows, specials and live events get the same turnkey studio

If a scene can be lit, it can be shot here. That means awards shows and reunion specials, true-crime recreations and kids' science shows, live commerce and esports, album sessions and pickups for a feature that wrapped months ago. The location is a photoreal virtual set that appears around your talent live, in camera, on our stage. You see the finished shot on the monitor while you film.

Two studios run the same method: Burbank, California, across from Nickelodeon, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, a Qualified Production Facility on the state's 30% refundable film credit. The whole set library is available at both.

Stadium-style audience seating above the green screen floor during a talk show taping at the Burbank studio, L.A. Castle Studios
  • A photoreal virtual set that appears around your talent live, in camera. The finished shot is on the monitor while you film.
  • 250+ sets ready to load in seconds, and our artists to build or capture nearly any location that is not among them.
  • Three cameras shooting the same world at once, each with its own render.
  • Audience seating at both studios: stadium-style tiers in Burbank, and seating in Albuquerque too.
  • The operator who runs the virtual sets, included. Camera and teleprompter crew as an optional package, or bring your own team.
  • Lighting, grip, audio and the teleprompter system on the floor. Dressing rooms, green rooms and production offices on site.
  • A live video-linking pipeline, so a live show or event streams with the finished environment in the feed.
  • Sets live on drives: no storage fee, and the same set, lighting and framing reload for a pickup or next year's show.

Shot here already

Awards shows, recreations and reunion specials, all shot here

Twelve kinds of work producers have already brought to our studios, and the titles behind them.

Awards shows

The BET Awards (BET/CBS), the American Valor Awards (ABC) and the American Humane Hero Dog Awards (Hallmark). Ceremony looks, presenter positions and package inserts on a floor that resets between segments.

A national tribute special

Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020, produced when no venue could hold an audience.

A cast reunion aftershow

The Diarra From Detroit reunion, taped on a virtual talk show set in Burbank while the series itself shot elsewhere.

A true-crime recreation

Celebrity Crime Scene: Princess Diana for FOX, shot entirely in the Burbank studio.

A historical reconstruction

Marilyn Monroe's Brentwood home, rebuilt in Unreal Engine as a navigable set for a FOX and TMZ investigation.

A 32-episode series with 50 locations

Hilton Head Island shot more than fifty locations without leaving the Burbank studio. No company moves.

A scripted comedy series

Discontinued, with Bruce Campbell: worlds swapped scene to scene without leaving the floor.

A kids' science series

Mission Unstoppable with Miranda Cosgrove (CBS), a season of host segments batch-shot in the studio.

Sports comedy

Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg.

Gaming and game tie-ins

NBA 2K with Shaq, and a Diablo IV spot with Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Music performance sessions

John Legend and Common, Alicia Keys, Khalid: performance pieces with a different world behind each artist.

Scenes for features and series

Aquaman 2, The Mummy and Greenland shot scenes here, as did Bosch, Inventing Anna and Deadliest Catch. See film studio rental.

Titles are the property of their networks and producers, shown to illustrate work completed in our studios; no affiliation or endorsement is implied. Full credit list →

Sets for specials and events

Sets for awards shows, specials, recreations and live events

An arena and a concert hall for the ceremony, a courtroom and the Oval Office for the recreation, a sports desk, a club for the comedy special, a medieval village for the period piece. Each loads in seconds, in Burbank or Albuquerque.

Describe the format. We will tell you how it shoots here.

Bring the format, the dates and the one thing that makes it hard. A producer replies with availability at both studios and a quote built on your actual shoot.

  • Turnkey: the studio, 250+ ready-to-load sets, lighting, grip, audio, the teleprompter system, support spaces and the operator who runs the virtual sets are included
  • Audience seating at both studios, and a live video-linking pipeline for shows and events that stream
  • Two studios: Burbank, California and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Quoted against your shoot, never a rack rate

What else the studio is built for

Ideas producers bring us, and what the studio does with them

Here is what 250+ sets, live compositing and several cameras on the same world can do for a project that does not fit a box.

Scripted

  • Pilots and proof-of-concept scenes: shoot the pitch scene on the real set before the greenlight.
  • Sitcoms and multi-camera comedy, with audience seating at both studios and a living room and a bar already in the library.
  • Anthology and limited series: a new world per episode, none of them built.
  • Period drama. A medieval village, a Victorian street and a western town are already in the library.
  • Horror, thriller and fantasy: night, weather and scale on demand.
  • Short films and festival pieces, with a feature-grade world at a short-film budget.
Film and TV series production →

Unscripted

  • Reality confessionals and interstitials, in a look that never has to be struck.
  • Reunion specials and aftershows on the show's own set, or a talk show set of its own.
  • Competition and quiz formats, with resets in seconds instead of overnight.
  • Cooking, home and lifestyle shows on kitchen, living-room and studio looks from the library.
  • Travel and adventure: CastleVision captures the destination, and the host never leaves the studio.
  • Fitness and wellness programs, one instructor, a different setting per episode.
Game show sets →

Specials and live

  • Awards ceremonies with presenter positions, package inserts and a look per category.
  • Holiday specials, telethons and charity broadcasts, with holiday sets ready to load.
  • Comedy specials, with a theatre, a club or a rooftop as the room.
  • Variety and sketch: the same floor, a new world per sketch.
  • Live streams with the finished composite in the feed, not a green screen.
  • Hybrid events with remote guests placed inside the same environment.
Theater and concert hall sets →

News, documentary and recreation

  • Documentary interviews on any backdrop, including the place the story happened.
  • True-crime and historical recreations, built to the floor plan, from the courtroom to the Oval Office.

  • Election-night and breaking-news sets that stand for one night and load again in four years.
  • Language versions of the same show: same set, another host, the same day.
News sets →

Sports and gaming

  • Sports desks and highlight shows, with a skyline or an arena behind the desk.
  • Esports broadcasts and game launches inside the game's own world.
  • Athlete media days and player introductions, a look per team.
  • Season previews and draft coverage.
Sports and arena sets →

  • Inserts and second-unit work.
  • In-camera visual effects scenes, approved on the monitor on the day.
  • The scene too dangerous or too expensive to shoot for real: the rooftop edge, the freeway, the open water.

Questions

Questions about specials, live events and everything else

Are the formats on the homepage the only ones that shoot here?
No. Those are what producers make here most. The studio does not know the difference between a talk show and a telethon: if a scene can be lit, it can be shot here. Awards shows, reunion specials, true-crime recreations, a kids' science series and a 32-episode drama with fifty locations have all shot here.
Can a format you have never done work in the studio?
Almost always. Every production gets the same package: a photoreal virtual set that appears around the talent live, in camera, 250+ sets ready to load, our artists to build or capture anything else, and the operator who runs it. Tell us the format and the dates and we will walk the shoot day with you on a tour.
Can we shoot stills or photography here?
Yes. A photographer works the same way a director does: the location appears around the subject live, so the campaign that needs a penthouse, a courtroom and a beach shoots them all in one session.
Can a live event be broadcast from the studio?
Yes. The studio runs a live video-linking pipeline, so a town hall, a launch, a telethon or a live show streams with the finished environment in the feed. Multi-camera, the teleprompter system and audience seating are on the floor at both studios.
Can we seat a live audience for an awards show or a special?
Yes, at both studios. Burbank has stadium-style tiered seating built in, and a giant LED video village where the whole team watches the finished composite. Albuquerque seats an audience as well. Tell us the headcount and we will confirm the fit.
Can the set come back for next year's special or a pickup?
Yes. Sets live on drives, so there is no storage fee and no monthly holding cost. The exact set, lighting and framing reload for a pickup, a follow-up special or next year's show, even months later.
How is a special or a one-off event priced?
Every production is quoted against the actual shoot, never a rack rate. What moves the number: shoot days, crew size, set complexity, which studio you use, and extras such as an audience or a custom environment. The rates page explains each one.

More on cost: rates and what drives them. More on the method: how CastleVision works.
