- Do you offer a green screen studio for rent?
- Yes. We have a pre-lit green screen cyclorama in Burbank, a clean, evenly lit chroma-key wall with a 20-ft ceiling, silent HVAC and isolated power, available for rent on its own for traditional green screen and chroma-key work.
- What is a chroma key studio?
- A chroma key studio is a room built around an evenly lit green backdrop, usually a seamless cyclorama, or cyc. Keying software removes the green and puts a new background behind the talent. At most studios that happens in post. Ours keys live: three Ultimatte keyers and Unreal Engine put a photoreal set behind your talent in camera, so the finished shot is on the monitor while you film.
- How is this better than a regular green screen?
- On a regular green screen the background is added weeks later in post, so the crew shoots without ever seeing it. Our patented CastleVision pipeline composites the photoreal background live, so you light, frame and approve the finished shot on the day, and the same cyc still keys green for classic chroma-key work.
- Where are your green screen studios located?
- Burbank, California, at 154 S. Victory Blvd in the Media Capital of the World, minutes from Warner Bros., Disney and Universal. And Albuquerque, New Mexico, at 8610 President Pl NE, a New Mexico Qualified Production Facility, where qualified in-state spend earns the state’s 30% refundable film tax credit.
- Is the crew included?
- Every rental includes the studio, lighting, grip and audio, the teleprompter system, dressing rooms, makeup, green rooms and production offices on site, and the virtual system operator who drives the environment in real time. Camera crew is an optional add-on: our crew package supplies three camera operators (one on the jib) and a teleprompter operator, or bring your own team. You bring the script and the talent.
- What are the green screen stage specs?
- In Burbank the ceiling is 20 feet, with 15 feet to the grid, and the cyclorama is pre-lit. In Albuquerque the cyclorama is lit by 36 Aputure Nova P300c fixtures rigged across the grid and floor. Both studios key live with three Ultimatte keyers and track every camera, so the background moves with the lens.
- What does a green screen studio rental cost?
- Every production is quoted individually; there is no rack rate. Shoot days, crew size, set complexity and which studio you use drive the number, along with the format, cameras, audience and any custom set work. Unlike an hourly green screen listing in Los Angeles, the rental already covers the operator who runs the virtual sets, lighting and grip, the audio package, the teleprompter system and the support rooms. Send your dates and a producer replies with availability and a quote.
- What is the difference between a green screen and a white cyc?
- A green cyc is keyed out and replaced with a background. A white cyc is a seamless white room you shoot as it is. We do not run a physical white cyc: for a clean white look, the virtual white cyc set loads on the green screen like any other background, with the finished frame live on the monitor.
- Green screen or LED wall: which is better for my shoot?
- It depends on the shot. An LED wall lights the talent with the background and shows up in reflections, which a green screen cannot do. Green wins on camera freedom: each camera gets its own render, so three cameras can move in different directions through the same set, and because the foreground can wait a moment for the render, fast camera moves stay locked to the background. The trade-off is a slight delay on the operators’ monitor feed, not in the recorded image. We composite on green at both studios.
- Can I record each camera as well as the live composite?
- In Burbank the studio records every camera’s ISO alongside the live composite, so the edit gets each angle as well as the finished frame. If your post team also wants clean green plates for a re-key, say so in your quote request and we will confirm exactly what ships before the shoot.
- What should talent wear on a green screen?
- Avoid green and colors close to it, such as lime and some teals, because the keyer removes them. Shiny fabrics, sequins and reflective jewelry can pick up green from the cyc, and very fine patterns, sheer fabric and flyaway hair are the hardest details to key. Bring a second option. Because the composite is live here, a wardrobe problem shows up on the monitor at the camera test, not weeks later in post.
- Can I see the green screen before I book?
- Yes. Tours run by appointment for producers with a project, at either studio, and include a live CastleVision demo: we load a set and you watch the composite on the monitor.
