What is a virtual set?
A virtual set is a photoreal location built in Unreal Engine, the video game engine that draws our sets in real time. Camera tracking tells the engine where each lens is pointed, so the set holds its place as the camera moves, and it is composited around your talent live, in camera, with an operator driving it. That is a different thing from a virtual background in a streaming or video-call app. We keep 250+ virtual sets ready to load, and because sets live on drives, the virtual standing sets you shot on can be reloaded exactly for pickups months later, with no storage fees.

Set selection, scouting and a live demo

Custom virtual sets and location capture
When the library doesn't have the room your script needs, in-house set builders and artists build it to your spec from a reference. CastleVision films a real place, with its real light and movement, and brings it onto the stage. CastleVision 3D scans a real place into a photoreal 3D set the camera can move through. Our virtual production stage in Los Angeles is a pre-lit green screen cyclorama in Burbank driven by a multi-camera Unreal Engine pipeline. Talent performs on the physical floor while the engine renders the environment in real time and CastleVision composites the two live: the shot in the program monitor is the finished shot, and the pixels recorded on set are final pixels, not placeholders for post. That floor, with the set drawn around your talent in real time, is what people mean by a virtual stage.
This is virtual production beyond LED walls. The environment lives in the engine, so sets swap in seconds. Each of the three cameras gets its own render, so cameras can move in different directions through the same space, and the pipeline cuts between them the way a broadcast control room does.
