Three ways a location reaches the stage

Any location for filming: ready now, built for you, or captured from the real place.

Here is how it works if you have never shot virtual production. The location is a photoreal virtual set that appears around your talent live, in camera, on our stage. You see the finished shot on the monitor while you film. 250+ of those locations are ready to load in the set library. If your scene needs a place that is not among them, our in-house set builders and artists build it. If it needs a real place, we capture it with CastleVision, our patented method for filming a real place, with its real light and movement, and bringing it onto the stage, so actors perform inside it and the camera can move as if it were there.

That includes your own restaurant, bank, store or office, rebuilt exactly and arranged for filming, so the business never has to close. You shoot it in Burbank or Albuquerque, and the whole library comes with the booking, so the recreated location is one scene in a studio that can be a courtroom or the Oval Office the same afternoon.

From the library

250+ virtual sets ready now. Load any of them in seconds, change them between setups, and dress the foreground with real furniture and props.

Built by our artists

In-house set builders and artists create any location you can describe, from a reference, a floor plan, a sketch or an idea. Imagined places included.

From the real place

CastleVision, our patented capture method, records a real location, nearly anywhere in the world, with its real light and movement and replays it on stage. Including yours.

Included in every booking

  • The studio floor and 250+ ready-to-load virtual sets
  • The operator who runs the virtual sets, in the rate
  • Lighting, grip and audio packages already on the floor
  • The teleprompter system
  • Dressing rooms, makeup, green rooms and production offices

Quoted to your project

  • A location built to your reference by our in-house set builders and artists
  • A real place captured with CastleVision and brought onto the floor
  • Your own restaurant, bank, store or office, recreated from photographs, plans or the address
  • Crew package: three camera operators (one on the jib) and a teleprompter operator. Or bring your own team

A real place can also be scanned into a photoreal 3D set the camera moves through, with Gaussian Splatting capture (CastleVision 3D).

Already on the shelf

The locations producers ask for, ready to load today

Restaurants, banks and stores that will not close for a shoot, cities an ocean away, and rooms nobody gets permission to film. Start from one of these and we tailor it, or send us yours and we recreate it.

Check availability

Tell us the location. We’ll tell you how it gets on camera.

A photo, an address, a floor plan or a line from the script is enough. A producer replies with whether it is already in the library, what a build or capture involves, and availability at both studios.

  • Every booking includes the studio, 250+ ready-to-load sets, lighting, grip and audio, and the operator who runs the virtual sets
  • Custom builds and CastleVision captures are quoted to the location, never a rack rate
  • Two studios: Burbank, California and Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the state’s 30% refundable credit

Locations nobody can get

Four locations producers cannot get, and how they get them here.

Classy Restaurant virtual production standing set — angle 2 on the L.A. & ABQ Castle Studios stage

The restaurant that cannot close

A commercial needs a day in the dining room. The dining room needs the lunch rush. We recreate the restaurant exactly, then configure it for filming: the wall that was in the way is gone, the window faces the light, and the restaurant never closes.

Start from the classy restaurant set →

Bank Building with Interior virtual production standing set — angle 3 on the L.A. & ABQ Castle Studios stage

The bank that will not allow cameras

Security says no, insurance says no, the branch manager says no. The lobby, the counters and the vault door are recreated on stage, with no customers, no guards and no restrictions on where the camera goes.

Start from the bank set, interior included →

Grocery Store virtual production set — brick supermarket facade with glowing red SUPERMARKET sign and lit interior at twilight

The store that cannot lose a sales day

Retail does not shut for production. The aisles, the fixtures and the signage are rebuilt as a virtual set, dressed with real product in the foreground, and shot at whatever hour the schedule needs.

Start from the grocery store set →

Lisbon Square virtual production set — cream-and-ochre Portuguese facade with corner tower and balconies viewed from a sunlit cafe terrace

The place three thousand miles away

A European square, a coastline, a street in another country. CastleVision captures the real place with its real light and movement and replays it on stage, so the company never travels and the sun never moves.

Or start from the Lisbon-inspired square set in the library →

Browse the set library by room before you ask for a build: restaurant sets, store and shop sets, office sets and city street sets. Everything in our standing set library reloads for pickups months later.

Configured for filming, not for customers

Better than the real thing, because it was built for the camera.

Walls that block the camera come out; the room keeps its look.

Windows face the light the DP wants, at the hour the script wants, for as long as the day runs.

The camera moves inside the location on an encoded crane or dolly, and more than one camera can shoot it at once.

Real furniture, product and props are dressed in the foreground, so talent touches something solid.

The composite is finished in camera on the day. The shot the director approves on the monitor is the shot.

Nothing to strike. The location is saved and can be loaded again for pickups, a second spot or a sequel.

The same approach runs across formats: a client’s store for a commercial studio rental, a location a feature cannot get on a film studio rental, the HQ lobby for corporate video, or a film’s own set, captured before it is struck, for the press junket. A captured place can also be one of the looks in a music video studio day.

Questions

Questions about recreating a location

Can you recreate our own restaurant, store or office?
Yes. Send photographs, plans or the address and we build it or capture it with CastleVision, then configure it for filming: walls that block the camera come out, windows face the light, and the business never has to close. You shoot it at our studio in Burbank or Albuquerque.
What if the location does not exist anywhere?
Our in-house set builders and artists build it from a reference, a floor plan, a sketch or a description. It joins the library as a virtual set you can load in seconds and return to on any later shoot.
Does a captured location look like the real place?
CastleVision is our patented method for recording a real location with its real light and movement and replaying it on stage, so the camera can move inside it and the composite is finished in camera on the day. It is the same method behind the Old Town Albuquerque demo at the top of this page.
How long does a custom location take?
It depends on the scope: a capture of a real place is quicker than a build from scratch, and both are far quicker than construction. Tell us the date and we will tell you what fits before it.
Do we still get the library?
Always. Every booking includes the 250+ ready-to-load sets, so the custom location is one scene in a studio that can also be a courtroom, a subway car or a newsroom the same day.
What is included when we shoot a recreated location?
Every booking includes the studio, the 250+ ready-to-load sets, lighting, grip and audio packages, the teleprompter system, dressing rooms, makeup, green rooms and production offices, and the operator who runs the virtual sets. A custom build or a CastleVision capture is quoted to the location. Camera crew is an optional package: three camera operators (one on the jib) and a teleprompter operator, or bring your own team.
How much does it cost to recreate a location for filming?
Every production is quoted individually; there is no rate card. The number moves with shoot days, crew size, how complex the location is, how much custom build or capture work it needs, and which studio you book. What comes off the budget is concrete: no company moves, no location fees or scouting, no travel, per diems or weather days, no set construction required, and nothing to strike. The location is saved, so pickups do not mean a rebuild.
Can we see it work before we book?
Yes. Producers with a project can book a studio tour by appointment, which includes a live CastleVision demo: a real place composited around a person on the floor, on the monitor, as it happens.
