What you get

Film studio space for rent, with the location already built

Film studio rental in Burbank (Los Angeles) and Albuquerque works differently here. The location is a photoreal virtual set that appears around your cast live, in camera, on our stage. You see the finished shot on the monitor while you film, and the location can change between takes. Both studios run the same CastleVision method, pioneered in 2007 and now covered by two U.S. patents, with the same 250+ sets and the same multi-camera floor.

You load any film set in the set library, from a Manhattan penthouse to a working space station, and shoot it the same day. The studio, the technology and the sets are already on the floor, so the budget goes to the screen, not to construction. Whether you need a movie studio in Los Angeles or a film studio rental in New Mexico, both run the same pipeline.

Burbank: the finished composite on the monitor while the scene is shot

Included in every film studio rental

  • The studio floor and green screen cyclorama, with the virtual set appearing live in camera
  • Any of 250+ ready-to-load film sets, swapped in seconds between setups
  • A virtual system operator who drives the set in real time, so you never hire a systems team
  • Lighting, grip and audio packages already on the floor: no separate gear rental
  • Dressing rooms, makeup, green rooms and production offices
  • Multi-camera Unreal Engine pipeline, with each camera getting its own render

Optional: a crew package of three camera operators (one on the jib) and a teleprompter operator, or bring your own departments. Every production is quoted individually; see what drives the cost.

Film studio specs: Burbank and Albuquerque side by side

What a UPM or DP checks before a scout. Albuquerque is a New Mexico Qualified Production Facility, so studio days there count toward the 30% refundable credit on qualified in-state spend. Ask whether the cinema cameras are in your quote.

Movie sets that are hard to get for real, ready to load in Burbank or Albuquerque

Movie sets by name: the Oval Office, a courtroom, a police bullpen, a hospital room, an airport terminal, a subway car, an airplane cabin and a space station. Each loads in seconds, can change between setups, and loads in Albuquerque too.

Check availability

Tell us about the picture and we'll check both studios for your dates

Format, scope and dates is enough to start. A producer reads it, not a sales queue, and replies with availability in Burbank and Albuquerque and a quote built on your actual shoot.

  • Turnkey: the studio, 250+ film sets, lighting, grip and a virtual system operator are in every rental
  • Two studios: Burbank (Los Angeles) and Albuquerque, a New Mexico Qualified Production Facility (30% refundable credit on qualified in-state spend)

Film studio rental vs. a four-wall sound stage

A traditional film stage rental gives you four walls and a grid, and the art department builds from there. Ours gives you the film set too, in Los Angeles or Albuquerque. Instead of building, dressing and striking it, you pick one of our virtual standing sets and shoot it the same day, while the Unreal Engine film pipeline composites it around your cast live.

That changes the schedule more than the floor plan. Build days and strike days come off the calendar, the lighting and grip packages are already on the floor, and the director approves the finished frame on the monitor, with no background added later in post. The operator who runs the virtual sets is in every rental, so you never hire a systems team. Weighing an LED wall instead? Read LED volume vs green screen.

If a plain chroma key day is all you need, the pre-lit green cyc in Burbank also rents on its own as a green screen studio. Pricing an empty stage for your own build? Compare it with our sound stage rental in Los Angeles.

What film studio rental costs in Los Angeles, and what the rate replaces

Every production is quoted individually, against your actual shoot, not a rack rate, and that is how our film studio rental rates work in both cities. When you compare it with an hourly four-wall rental, compare the whole day: our rate already carries the film set, lighting and grip, audio, the dressing and green rooms and the operator who runs the virtual sets. On a four-wall stage those often arrive as separate lines.

What moves the number

  • Shoot days
  • Crew size: your own departments, or our optional crew package
  • Set complexity: a library set, or a custom environment built to your spec
  • Which studio: Burbank, or Albuquerque on the New Mexico credit
  • Cameras and an audience, when the shoot needs them

What the day takes off a film budget

The set is ready on day one, so there is no set construction required, no strike and no storage bill after wrap. The unit stays in one building: no company moves, no location fees or scouting, no travel to distant locations and no weather days. Pickups reload the same set months later instead of a rebuild.

More on how a studio quote is built. In Albuquerque, studio days also count toward New Mexico's 30% refundable film tax credit on qualified in-state spend.

ABQ Castle Studios opened in 2024, and nearly everything shot there is a feature. It is one of the largest virtual production stages in the world, and among the film and movie studios in Albuquerque, ours is the only one running patented real-time virtual production. The building is new; the pipeline behind it has been running productions since 2007.

Studio days in Albuquerque put the production on New Mexico's 30% refundable credit: the 25% base plus a 5% uplift for shooting at a Qualified Production Facility, on qualified in-state spend. In our experience the payout is estimated at roughly 6 to 12 months after filing, and timelines vary; confirm the details with your production accountant. How the New Mexico film tax credit works. For a limited number of pictures we choose to back, investor-backed production financing is also available.

Burbank has hosted feature work too. Scenes shot here: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Mummy and Cheaper by the Dozen. On the series side, Hilton Head Island shot more than 50 locations across 32 episodes without leaving our Burbank studio. The full credit list.

No company moves, and pickups months later

A film shot on locations spends its days moving: trucks, parking, weather and a new lighting setup at every stop. Here the unit stays put and the location changes. A courtroom in the morning and the Oval Office after lunch is a set change, not a company move. Procedural locations are grouped together in courtroom, police station and jail sets, and airport scenes in airplane and airport sets.

Pickups do not mean a rebuild. Sets live on drives, so the exact set, lighting and framing reload instantly, even months later, with no storage fees in between. Every one of our standing sets in Los Angeles is also available in Albuquerque, so a production can split between the two studios without losing continuity. If the scene is not in the library, we build it, or capture the real place with CastleVision: any location, built or captured.

Coming from out of town? Send your dates first. We quote the studio days against your shoot before anyone books travel, and a studio tour with a live demo can be booked by appointment. Burbank is about 15 minutes from Burbank (BUR) airport and about 45 minutes from LAX; Albuquerque is about 10 minutes from the Sunport.

Film studio rental questions

What does a film studio rental include here?
Every rental is turnkey: the studio floor, the CastleVision pipeline, 250+ ready-to-load sets, lighting, grip and audio, plus dressing rooms, makeup, green rooms and production offices. A virtual system operator who drives the set is included in every rental. Additional crew is available as an optional package, or bring your own team. You bring the script and the talent.
How much does it cost to rent a film studio in Los Angeles?
Every film studio rental is quoted to the production, not from a rate card. The quote already carries the film set, lighting, grip, audio, the support rooms and the operator who runs the virtual sets, which a four-wall stage often bills as separate lines; send your format, scope and dates for a quote.
Do you rent a traditional sound stage too?
Our studios are virtual production studios built on green screen stages. Instead of building and striking physical sets, you load any of the 250+ sets in the library and shoot it the same day; if the scene is not in the library, we build it or capture the real place with CastleVision. The pre-lit green cyc in Burbank also rents on its own for traditional chroma key.
Where can I find movie sets in Los Angeles?
In our set library: 250+ ready-to-load film sets you can search by room and theme, including two courtrooms, a police station and jail, hospital rooms, an airport terminal, an airplane cabin, a subway car and the Oval Office. Each one appears around your cast live, in camera, on the green screen floor in Burbank or Albuquerque. If the scene you need is not in the library, we build it or capture the real place with CastleVision.
Where are your studios located?
Two locations. Burbank, California, at 154 S. Victory Blvd in the Media Capital of the World, across from Nickelodeon and about 5 minutes from Warner Bros. And Albuquerque, New Mexico, at 8610 President Pl NE, a Qualified Production Facility where qualifying productions can earn the state’s 30% refundable film tax credit on qualified in-state spend.
Is there parking and load-in for a film crew and its equipment?
Burbank has 20+ parking spaces and drive-on load-in for equipment and even vehicles, straight onto the stage. Albuquerque has extensive parking and easy load-in. Send your truck count and basecamp needs with your dates, and walk the load-in on your studio tour.
Can we bring our own crew?
Yes. The operator who runs the virtual sets is included in every rental; the rest is your call. Bring your own camera, grip and electric departments, or add our optional crew package of three camera operators (one on the jib) and a teleprompter operator.
How do I get a rate?
Tell us your format, scope and dates and we’ll price the package against your actual shoot, not a rack rate. What moves the number: shoot days, crew size, set complexity and which studio you use. Book a tour and we’ll run a live demo on the floor.
Can we come back for pickups or reshoots?
Yes, and pickups do not mean a rebuild. Sets live on drives, so the exact set, lighting and framing reload months later, with no set storage fees in between.
Can one production split between Burbank and Albuquerque?
Yes. Every standing set available in Burbank is also available in Albuquerque, on the same pipeline, so a production can split between the two studios without losing continuity.
Can I see the studio before we book travel?
Yes. Studio tours run by appointment for producers with a project, at both studios, and include a live CastleVision demo. Burbank is about 15 minutes from Burbank (BUR) airport; Albuquerque is about 10 minutes from the Sunport.
